2019 Hilina'i's Walk
Donation protected
Hilina'i's Walk is a 38 Mile walk that her dad (Tommy Heffernan) does to raise funds to help Hilina'i get the services and education she needs from Variety School of Hawai'i. This year's walk will take place on August 29-30th.
History: Hilina’i was diagnosed with Hypotonia when she was one. This affected her speech, eating, core strength and walking. Later, she was diagnosed with Developmental Delays across the board, from cognitive and physical to social and emotional. Today this is referred to as Intellectual Disability. We tried the public education system but Hilinaʻi regressed and began hurting herself, largely due to her inability to communicate. Her Neurologist suggested Variety School of Hawaiʻi, where she has been ever since. We made a commitment to get her there, and Tommy has been walking 38 miles, with family and friends, from his childhood school (Hauʻula Elementary) to Variety School in Diamond Head to raise money and awareness.
Today, Hilina'i is thriving at Varitey School as she begins her senior year. This will be her last year there, and subsequently, it will be Tommy's last walk. We appreciate your support and prayers as he embarks on his last trek. We are so grateful for all our family and friends who have walked along side Tommy to support Hilina'i's journey. We are equally blessed by the generous donations from our "village", it takes a village to raise a child, and you have contributed so much to impact Hilina'i's life.
