For those of you who know me well, the game of basketball has been a lifelong passion of mine. It has molded me into the person I am today and it has shaped my professional career giving me the opportunity to work on two NCAA® Women’s Final Four® events and two Men’s Final Fours®. You also probably know, I’m passionate and always enjoy a challenge!
I’m honored and thrilled to once again contribute to San Antonio’s next Final Four in 2018 as the Executive Director of the San Antonio Local Organizing Committee. As a part of the planning process, our staff and the San Antonio Sports team will be implementing basketball into the San Antonio Sports i play! afterschool program beginning in the spring of 2017.
This 25-week skills-based afterschool program provides early-stage sports development, nutrition and character education for kids in underserved areas of San Antonio. i play! afterschool provides five, 5-week sessions for tennis, track, soccer, volleyball and now basketball. Each sport session concludes with a fun competition where kids can demonstrate their new skills and parents, family and friends can cheer them on. Each child receives a backpack, t-shirt, shorts and athletic shoes.
In 2018, i play! afterschool teams will be introduced to enhanced curriculum and training and get to compete for the final four slots in the culminating basketball tournament, which will take place on center court at the NCAA Fan Fest® during Final Four weekend!
Here comes the challenge…I will be running the Humana Rock ‘N' Roll San Antonio ½ Marathon on December 4 WHILE DRIBBLING A BASKETBALL in an effort to raise funds to support this initiative.
Help me in supporting our 2018 NCAA® Final Four® legacy program by giving over 1,200 kids an opportunity to change their life through the power of sport as it did for me. If that doesn’t motivate you to give, hopefully watching me dribble a basketball 13.1 miles will!
