Get Selena to 2017 Deaflympics!

8th grader Selena Zou will be part of Canadian National Swim Team at 2017 (23rd) Deaflympics Summer Games to be held July 18-30, 2017 at Sumsun, Turkey. She will participate in 10 individual events and 2 team relay events, i.e. 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m freestyle, 50m, 100m, 200m butterfly, 100m, 200m back stroke, 200 IM (Individual Medley), and 4x100m mixed freestyle relay as well as 4x100 mixed medley relay.
Born with profound hearing loss, Selena received her first cochlear implant at age of 2 and the second one at 7.
Selena is passionate about swimming. She claims that swimming gives her swimmer's high. Her training schedule is really busy: 7 times a week at her swimming club - Greater Ottawa Kingfish (GO Kingfish). She works so hard that she almost never misses any training session. Through such hard work and persistence, she overcame the difficulties of hearing loss and issues with cochlear implant processors and greatly improved her swimming skills that she qualified for the 23rd Deaflympics Summer Game.
Coach Simon's comment: Selena is a harding-working girl, goal-oriented, so if there is any problem, she'll work on it and fix it very quickly.
Teacher Ms. Small-Greenall's comment: I have had the real pleasure of teaching and working with Selena this year. She is a determined, hard working young person with a great sense of humour. Selena is a positive role model and leader in the school community. I am thrilled that she has decided to participate in the 23rd Deaf Olympic Games this year. This experience is going to be rich, exciting and I am sure challenging. I wish Selena safe travels and best of luck.

Selena is a modest and hard working individual, who always puts the very best effort into everything she does. When I heard that she had qualified for the 23rd Deaf Olympics in Turkey this year, I was very excited for her. Selena exemplifies everything an athlete who will represent Canada should. Expenses
Selena will need about $3500 to cover her trip to Sumsun, Turkey. Selena's parents will incur additional expenses to fly to Turkey to cheer her up at the games.
