Hi everyone — my name is Frank, and many of you know me as one of Daniel’s closest friends. I'm organizing this fundraiser on his behalf and will be handling the payments directly to his legal representation to ensure everything is accounted for and secure.

Many of you know Daniel Kang — to me, he's not just a friend, he's family. For years, I’ve watched him quietly endure what no one should: a toxic and emotionally abusive marriage that escalated into domestic violence. Like many survivors of gaslighting and coercive control, Daniel kept it all inside, for far too long.

But recently, something changed.

On April 29, Daniel reported his wife to the police and fled their shared home for his own safety. He is now staying in a shelter with no access to his finances, while his wife continues to control all the shared financial accounts and documentation — effectively cutting him off from even the basic resources he needs to defend himself.

To make matters worse, she has now filed for divorce in family court. Without legal representation, Daniel risks having no say in the process that will define his freedom, safety, and future. And he simply doesn't have the funds to fight back.

Daniel’s Story:

My name is Daniel Kang, and I’m reaching out during one of the most difficult moments of my life.

I’ve been trapped in a toxic, emotionally abusive marriage for several years, and recently experienced a severe escalation involving domestic violence. On April 29, I reported the situation to the police and fled our shared residence for my safety. I’m currently living in a shelter, with limited access to basic resources, financial documents, or support.

Adding to the emotional strain, the other party has now filed for divorce — and I urgently need legal help to protect my rights, my voice, and my future.

Why I Need Help:

After careful research and consultation, I’ve found a lawyer with experience in cases like mine. He is willing to take my case, but requires a $2,000 USD retainer to begin representation. He has also agreed to a flexible payment plan of $1,000 USD per month for the remainder of the process.

The divorce is already underway, and without legal representation in place right now, I risk losing the ability to participate meaningfully in the proceedings.

Funding Goal:

My immediate need is $2,000 USD to secure legal representation and sign the retainer agreement.

My full fundraising goal is $7,000 USD, which will help cover the ongoing legal fees if the case can be settled out of court.

This includes:
