2 Week Interdisciplinary Wildfire Art Residency

My name is Jess and I’m currently an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies at Thompson Rivers University, focusing on the intersection of wildfire, psychology, and sociology. I am a fine woodworker, lino cut artist and former wildland firefighter.

This residency is a unique two-week program hosted by Fire Seasons in Northern California this June. It’s a pilot initiative in partnership with Wildfire International , bringing together artists to explore fire through creative, cultural, and ecological lenses. I have been personally selected to attend as both an artist and a former wildland firefighter.

This opportunity strongly aligns with the interdisciplinary direction of my studies and my intended thesis, particularly in bridging wildfire experience, mental health, and language. This residency will allow me to deepen my work in ways that aren’t accessible through traditional coursework. I believe this experience will not only support my academic and professional development, but also contribute meaningfully to broader wildfire dialogue.

As the residency takes place during the summer season, attending presents a financial challenge, as this is typically when I rely on full-time work to support my studies for the coming year.

I am seeking approximately $1,000 CAD to cover travel and material costs.

For every donation, I will be personally mailing you a copy of one of my prints. Please include your mailing so I can pop your print in the mail.

Thank you so much for your support. It means the world.
