2 injured, neglected & abandoned Hoopa horses

I wanted to say Thank You to those who donated via Venmo. You will see myself making donations in this GoFundMe. As I’m getting donations in my personal Venmo for the horses - I’m moving them here to keep it all straight. As I do - you will see myself adjusting the GoFundMe “goal” deducting the Venmo amount from it! I love you all and I love your hearts!!!! THANK YOU ALL for helping - please keep sharing so we can continue her healing…. Again - thank you to the following Venmo donations:

Mother: Medication Charge below to have on hand in case she doesn’t calm down or is stressing out.

Mothers Charges from day 2 (1/9/24) below. Then discharged so I could bring them home to save $300 in overnight boarding fees.

Mothers charges for Day 1. Stayed one night then discharged (to save boarding fees). Photo of charges below

Daughter was brought in 1/8/24 and treated on 1/9/24 - then discharged :) Here were her charges below

Todays wound care charges 1/10/24
This is what it will be every other day for the next 2-3 weeks (pic below)

1/10/24 wound treatment at the vets. Thank you Dr. Burke!
Thankfully, we had donations sent in last night and early this morning, which left me able to take mother back in this morning to have wound care instead of being put down. I am hopeful that donations will continue to trickle in, so we can move forward with treatment. I will attach photos of how her vet visit went today she will not need to continue to be hauled into the vets office every other day for the next three weeks. Each visit will cost approximately $237. Once we get the wound to a certain point then it will be safe for myself to do wound care treatment from home to save on costs. For the next few weeks, the treatment she will be receiving from the vets consist of:

• Sedation
• soaking the wound to soften tissue
• debridement which is scraping and cutting of dead tissue - making the healthy tissue bleed
• Flushing the wound
• Getting the swelling down and repacking the wound and tying bandages in place.

Update 1/10/24 7pm
This morning I had an appointment set to have “Mother” humanely euthanized, but could not follow through. I just can’t find it in my heart to give up on her yet knowing there are still funds trickling in & the fact that she is healthy otherwise (& so sweet). The vet has advised me that it is not ideal for me to do home wound care this early since it is so serious and needing lots of attention and debridements. I have ran circles in my head of different options trying to make sense of all of this. I feel like with all of my experience in rescue and working at a vets office that of all people, I would know when it’s time for an animal to be put out of its misery. There is not one square inch of my body that screams at me that it is her time. She looks better than most people’s young horses I know! Her sweet attitude and body condition also indicate great health. Her Uterine Culture results have not come back. We should know more tomorrow or Friday & how to move forward on that.
Mothers wound care is priority at the moment and I will continue to haul her to the vets office every other day for wound care for the next few weeks. Each visit will cost $237.00. After the first few weeks we can spread the days out and I should be able to take over and so some at home as long as funds are avail.

as of now, the total vet costs are $3,300. We have $300 in donations that were made directly to the vets office (Thank you Debbie McBeth, Betsy Bareilles & Vicki McCulley ❤️
we’ve had many privately Venmo me (I will add a individual thank you update) which all adds to $3,200! Each day - I will deduct the amount people are sending me via Venmo from the GoFundMe goal. That way the goal reflects what’s been donated via Venmo ❤️

Today 1/10/24 : Ian McMahon donated a trim to Daughter! We got her front hooves done with no issues - she’s definitely had them done in the past
❤️ Thank you Ian!!!!!

We call the Daughter of the holder mare “Daughter”. Daughter has received all her care and is recovering nice from her growth removal yesterday. She will need her vaccine boosters in 3 weeks, stitches removed in 10 days and rear hoof trim after sutures are removed and will be set!!! The vet determined her age being around 15 yrs old while doing her dental work

UPDATE 1/9/24 6:50pm
I brought the girls home tonight for a couple reasons… 1st to cut down cost of medical boarding. It costs $134.00 a day for daughter and $198.00 for Mother. I also needed to see where we were with donations so I could make a practical decision.

I had the Dr. Treat Daughter and get her to where she doesn’t need to come back and hopefully be placed into a home soon. Yesterday to Today She had a fecal done which showed she was infested with worms - so she was de-wormed. She got her vaccines, teeth floated (she had never had her teeth maintenances before) & surgery to remove the growth off her back leg. She needs some serious hoof care the Derrick Vaughn has offered to donate (THANK YOU DERRICK!) I will be reaching out to set up.

MOTHERS UPDATE: Mother had a fecal done as well and needed to be de-wormed. She needed a blood panel done so we knew if there were any other underlying issues going on… the needed a tetanus vaccine as her injuries seem to have been caused by metal fencing. She received extensive wound care, flushing, pain management, antibiotics for her leg and an exam which showed she has a severe uterine infection.
The leg injury was about a week old… luckily it doesn’t go onto the joint but did cut through a few layers of muscle which can heal. By looking at her teeth the Dr agrees she’s every bit of 25! She’s so sweet and other wise healthy. Sadly - treatment for her will be approx 7,000. She will need a lot of after care and time…

I needed to bring them home to save boarding costs but to also review donations to see what Mothers options are moving forward.

So far My vet balance is $2,924.30. This balance was after the $300.00 in call in donations were deducted (Thank you Debbie, Betsy & Vicky!)

We have $1,145.00 in go fund me/Venmo donations which leaves a balance of $1,479.30 still to be paid.

I went and lowered the GoFundMe goal to $7,000 (from $10,000) since we have taken care of Daughter (dedicated her costs) and started on Mothers vet care needs.

Im not sure what to do from here…. I truly feel she deserves a chance… but I can’t continue as the funds are just not there. I strongly feel that I have enough knowledge and wound care experience that if we can fundraise to get her uterine infection in control that I will do everything I can to treat her leg by myself at home and hope to gawd it slowly heals….

I have an a tentative appointment tomorrow morning to be euthanized solely based off lack of funds. please pray for a miracle, she doesn’t want to die

My name is Jenna Moore - for those of you who don’t know me, i’ve been a animal lover from the beginning! I have many year’s experience working at local vets office, owned my own private animal rescue and continue to help rescue as my time allows.

3 days ago a post was spread throughout Fb trying to find the owners of 2 horses located in Hoopa California as one was severely injured needing immediate vet care. The Hoopa Valley Tribal Police Department tried locating their owners and no one was stepping up. I was contacted by the Hoopa Cheif as I was willing to try to help. We drove to Hoopa Monday morning & was able to get them safely loaded where we hauled them straight to North Coast vet hospital in Arcata, Ca. Where they are still currently.

After some conversation with the police department these horses have been passed owner to owner over the past serval years. The older mare “Mother” is at least 30 years old and her offspring “Daughter” we are still trying to find out. They have been running free on the reservation for years…. No care…. & sadly it shows & they are paying the price.

When I originally spoke with the vets yesterday we were looking at approx $3,000-$4,000 to treat them. After the vets worked on them last night and again today - it’s pretty bad and will easily reach $10,000 for both. They need major hoof care - large cracks almost all the way up their hooves, their teeth need done as they are chewing on the insides on their cheeks, the mom has a uterine infection and needs a culture, flushed, antibiotics, extensive shoulder/leg care which will require weeks/months of debridments (taking off dying tissues as it heals and keep wound clean and fresh) getting all that proud flesh to shrink! Will need Flushing, mass removal surgery, many many bandages changes, vaccines and rechecks. They will need Winter blankets, senior feed, hay and supplements.

I have the room to house them, the time
to do their vet aftercare and see them through but unfortunately they need more help than what I can provide. It truly takes a village….a little from many truly saves lives!

I’m willing to do updates through their recovery process to finding their forever homes in the end - but I can’t do this without some help. Please feel free to share and help be their voice ❤️

Thank you so much in advance!
