On February 25, 2020, our mom was taken to the ER at Sky Lakes Medical Center for what she was a thought was a stroke. After losing our dad to a stroke in Febraury 2019, there was an overwheliming sense of fear of losing her as well. Doctors evaluated her, and after CT Scans and MRI's, found a lesion on her brain. She was admitted overnight for further observation and testing. Over the next few weeks, she began experiencing very intense neuropathy (numbness) on the entire right side of her body along with these "episodes" of sensory overload that would come and go throughout the day. She was referred to Dr. Belza, a neurologist in Bend, who would hopefully provide answers as to what this was and what to do. On May 1, 2020, she underwent a brain biopsy on what we were now calling a tumor at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. She had remained in the hospital for almost another week afterwards, with her medical team trying to get her seizures under control with different types and combinations of medications. On May 6th, our family received very devastating news regarding our mom's diagnosis. Her pathology report of the tumor came back with results of a very rare, very aggressive, terminal cancer called Glioblastoma. Hers is stage 4 and it is incurable. We were told it is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer. Next week on Wednesday, May 14, she will return to St Charles Medical Center for brain surgery. The surgeon's attempt will be to remove as much of the tumor as possible, to help ease symptoms. Because it is in such a sensitive part of her brain, they will not be able to remove it completely. There are potential complications that could arise, as any surgery does. She has the option of chemotherapy and radiation to assist in easing symptoms as well. The outcome of these treatments in longevity of life will depend on how her body responds. Doctors have told us she could have anywhere from a few months to a year or two of life. We have had countless people from our church, friends and loved ones reaching out to see what they can do to help. And we are so grateful and love you all so much! Mom has been waiting on disability to kick in for over a year now and has no income since we lost our dad last year. I am out from work on unpaid FMLA for a little while until we get into a routine and get some help for my mom while I'm gone during the day. As difficult as this is to accept, our mom has a "bucket list" of things she'd love to do while she can. All of us kids are working together to do what we can for my mom to make living a little bit more comfortable for her as she undergoes treatment. Our mom has asked with a heavy heart, feeling so loved by you all and humbled by this situation, that we set up this fund for anyone who is looking to help our family financially. Between our mom's medical bills, me being home from work to take care of my daughter and the house, my sister having to work from home while taking care of her boys, my oldest brother waiting on a humanitarian move through the military to come home to be with our mom, and my second brother waiting for his second baby to arrive while he was initially moving to Japan as his new duty assignment, all in the middle of a pandemic.. it's difficult to keep up with the expenses piling up. Please do not feel obligated to donate to our family, we know God will take care of us and we appreciate and need your prayers more than anything. Our family is trusting in Our Creator, God Almighty, for guidance and faith that He knows what is best! We believe in a God of miracles, and are still praying for one for our mom. Continue praying with us as we learn to adjust.
