Girls Soccer Club in Rural Haiti

We (Taryn & Molly) have started a girls soccer club in the community we work, Fond des Blancs, Haiti. Soccer is a sport almost exclusively for boys here in Haiti, and this team is the first opportunity for girls to play sports.

This club is a chance for the girls to learn to play soccer, to exercise, to work as a team, and to have fun.

We are practice 3 times a week and schedule a game once a month. We incorporate health education messages (nutrition, stretching, hygiene, etc.). We have had many fun group activities that most girls would never get a chance to do, such as going to the beach, having movie nights, watching the Haitian National team play in Port au Prince, team dinners before games, and many small tournaments amongst themselves.

Currently, there are over 60 girls showing up to practices. We have 3 male Haitian coaches and 1 Haitian nurse who provides health education and guidance with health problems. Along with ourselves to manage the club.

We need you in order to continue this for next season! We need to raise money to cover basic necessities, such as water and snacks for practices, footwear for the girls, transportation for games and activities, and supplies for group activities. We are also hoping to train our coaches and do a soccer camp with the girls before next season starts.

Thank you for your support! Mesi Anpil!
