Help Becky “brave the shave”

On the 1st May I will be doing the unthinkable and shaving all the hair off my head! Whilst some may consider me crazy it’s for a great cause by helping me raise some money to help a wonderful strong woman who deserves every bit of help that comes her way.

Pre the UK covid 19 lock-down Pauline Castle (my husbands Nan) was taken to hospital as she suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia which has a major impact on her mobility. On a normal day despite the struggle she is able to walk short distances around her home with a frame but an infection in her leg had left her bed bound for weeks.

Whilst in hospital Terry Castle (Pauline's husband, Grandad to us) visited Pauline as much as possible as you would expect after being married for 62 years! Terry was also Pauline's full time carer. During her time recovering in hospital Pauline caught coronavirus and thankfully despite her age and illnesses made a full recovery. Unfortunately Terry also contracted the virus and suffered more worrying symptoms which he battled at home alone until he was reluctantly taken by ambulance to Southmead hospital on the afternoon of April 1st. Sadly and shockingly Terry passed away later that night just hours after being admitted.

Cruelly Pauline and Terry were in the same building for those final hours but couldn’t see each other. Since Terry’s passing Pauline had to spend the next few heart wrenching days in hospital alone due to restrictions and the fact that Terry was her primary carer she could not return home immediately.

Eventually Pauline was able to return home as her daughters Louise & Deborah and son Nick took over the primary caring duties. Unfortunately this is only a temporary solution as they all have their own homes, families and jobs whilst trying to provide Pauline with the 24 hour care she needs. The family and Pauline know they don't want her to go into care but the current situation cannot continue.

Everyone came together and decided the best option would be to convert Louise’s empty garage into a space for Pauline to live. This would mean she could be closer to family with reduced but more equipped living space to give her back the quality of life she deserves.

HERES WHERE YOU CAN HELP - The cost of converting the garage into a wet room and living space is anticipated to cost between £7.5k - £10k. Pauline has spent the last of her savings on a funeral for Terry so all the family are putting what they can in to get the work complete ASAP. As I have little cash to offer I am hoping this act will help raise some more cash towards helping Pauline back to a place where we all want and where she deserves to be. Any donation will truly be welcomed and hugely appreciated not only by me but the whole family. Thank you x x x
