In Memory Of Natasha (bridge incident)

In April of 2016 I stopped a young man that attempted to take his own life on I 287. A few weeks later I received messages from a young lady on Facebook. Natasha : Sgt Greg thank for saving my brothers life from the bridge at the time you were the guardian angel, we will be eternally grateful. The whole family is grateful. You where there to save the life of my brother. May god bless you and your whole family. Thank you so much for everything from mother, father, son, wife and sister. Thank you for returning him home safely. Me: sorry for the delayed response. Thank you so much for reaching out. It’s very rare we get to see the results of an incident such as this. I found myself wondering how he is doing many times. Your message just made my 18 years of law enforcement worth every minute. Natasha: May 22 he is okay, he started working now thank you so much for what you did for my brother. Thanks for returning my brother alive. a policeman like you we don’t see everyday, sincerely Natasha. Natasha and I continued to talk. She asked for T-shirts for her family from the fund raiser I had started to help stop the teenage suicides in Butler. A week later they sent me a picture of them all wearing the shirt. As the years passed, Natasha and I stayed in touch, sending Happy birthday or holiday messages. I learned that Natasha was born with muscular dystrophy and struggled with it through out her life time. She spent most of her time in a wheel chair. On Tuesday, April 21st, I received a message from Sam. (The young man from the bridge) Sam: hey..... just wanted to let you know my sister passed away. She had a lot of love for you regarding saving my life. My heart sank. Sam informed me that Natasha struggled for years with one lung. Over the years, she had multiple surgeries on her lung and spinal cord. After years of medication and procedures Natasha’s kidneys failed. She was 22 years old. Sam stated the family is struggling financially and were currently trying to find money for a proper burial for Natasha. Any donation will help, No matter how small. It will be greatly appreciated. Lets show this family we are truly in this together.
