I’ve known Miguel Menchu for over 15 years first as a tenant and later as my friend and building supervisor.  Today I learned that Miguel lost his life tragically as a victim of the COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday April 19th, 2020.  Miguel leaves behind his wife and two children. 

Miguel Angel Menchu Morales immigrated from Guatemala at the age of 21 looking for the American dream.  He worked hard and raised a beautiful family.  

Miguel had a huge impact on New York Specialty Coffee as an early employee of Oren's Daily Roast for over 25 years.  He was the backbone of their production and logistics and literally brought JOY WITH COFFEE to NYC on a daily basis.  Tens of thousands, possibly millions of people drank and loved the coffee he delivered.  He was a big part of the Oren's family from virtually the beginning and his tragic loss will leave a void in the hearts of his coworkers and customers. 

Miguel’s easy-going personality and disarming smile is a trait that those of us who had the honor of knowing him will always remember.  He was one of the hardest working and honest people I’ve known.  Miguel had a tremendous heart and would go above and beyond any task he put his mind to. 

Miguel’s departure from this world also means his family’s loss of their primary breadwinner.  Please help us raise money to support his funeral costs and to support his wife and children during these unprecedented and financially difficult times.
