Pigeon chest brace
My name is Josh, I am 12 years old and I live in Merseyside in the UK. Last May my mum noticed some changes in my chest, since this I have been seen at Alderhey Hospital and Diagnosed with Pectus Carinatum (Pigeon Chest). The only treatment for this is either surgery or an orthotic brace. The surgeon at Alderhey said I would have great results with either the surgery or brace, but this treatment is no longer available in the nhs in England. It is however available still in Wales, Scotland and Isle of Man. I really want the brace to fix my chest as it makes me feel uncomfortable and worried about other people seeing it, I just want it to be back to normal how it was. The brace costs £1500 please help me raise this amount so I can get Pectus carinatum - Pectus carinatum (pigeon chest) is when part of your child’s breastbone is pressed outwards or raised up. It usually first develops during a rapid growth spurt, in children and adolescents aged 10 and older. Pigeon chest is rare. It affects 1 or 2 children in a thousand and affects more boys than girls. Because it affects the shape of their chest, some children and adults with pigeon chest may be unhappy with their body. This can have a big impact on their lives. Even if pigeon chest isn’t causing any physical problems, treatment may be recommended to improve your child’s self-esteem and quality of life.
