I am sitting here this morning, facing my screen, taking the time to write this and to share with you about my Bestie, Skylar Noelle Wilson. She is the oldest child of 5, just turned 20 beginning of April, and a light in my life. There is a verse I would like to share, that from my point of view, shares the heart of Skylar and her family. ““God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.” Psalm 46:1-3
If I could say anything about Skylar and her family through what I’m about to share is that God has been their strength and refuge. He holds true to His promises and they are waiting on Him. God has given Skylar boldness, confidence and courage through all of this and I know He is carrying her through this journey. Her parents, Kerri and Andrew have been her prayer warriors along with many families and friends. Her Aunt, Alice Hoekstra and myself have wanted to start a Go Fund Me page for Sky for some time now. So as she is about to leave for the Mayo Clinic and her insurance has denied coverage twice now, We have decided to get that ball rolling.
Here is a glimpse of her story...
Last year on July 10th, 2019 Skylar and her brother Noah, were in a car accident. By the grace of God, Noah walked out unharmed and Skylar had only a fractured rib (a miracle to say the least, the accident flipped her car over) While Sky was receiving care for her rib (a standard CT scan), they found two nodules on Skylar’s thyroid. Further down the road, as Skylar and her family sought out testing, they discovered that one nodule on her left side, was hot, meaning benign. Yet the other one, on her right side, was cold, meaning there is a possibility of malignant tissue. Her endocrinologist made the decision to have Skylar undergo a radiation treatment. With the hopes that it would obliterate her thyroid tissue and cease any symptoms Skylar was experiencing. She underwent the radiation on October 22nd, 2019. Unfortunately, to this day she is still symptomatic and her doctor has left her with no answers.
Simultaneously, Skylar began experiencing seizures, unexplained ones that lead to a series of testing, 72 hour EEGS, MRI scans, etc. in hopes of finding some answers. Once again, unfortunately, she was left with no answers or explanation.
Having already been through the ringer, Skylar and her family were left exhausted.
Then, December of 2019 Skylar began experiencing severe appetite loss, followed by drastic weight loss, nausea, significant fatigue, hair loss, and constant stomach pain or discomfort. These symptoms adding on to ones she has already been experiencing due to her thyroid and neurological problems. Due to months of exhaustion, her and her family decided to apply for Mayo Clinic, a well known and well funded hospital that seeks out answers diligently and does not let the patient go home until they have a set health plan.
If you know the Wilsons, encouraging one another during difficult times is a specialty in their family. Skylar’s support system has been beautiful, one that pulls on your heart strings. The Wilson family have surrendered everything to the Lord, finances included.
As this time of the unknown continues Skylar continues to get more symptoms and no answers from the doctors. She drastically has dropped a lot of weight and still continues too, she has chronic pain, stomach issues, seizures, fatigue and other symptoms. The seizures are unexplainable and scary. This past month she has been passing out frequently and tests are not able to be done because of COVID-19. Her work life is limited because her body does not function most days. There is a sense of urgency for her and her family to get her to Mayo Clinic. They are praying diligently over the doctors and the answers they hope to find.
Her mother, Kerri and herself will be leaving April 27th for Mayo Clinic up in Rochester, Minnesota. Their insurance has denied them coverage twice now. The first day alone at Mayo Clinic is $5k out of pocket. I’m asking to help raise $20K for Skylar. She would eventually love to attend cosmetology school and move on with her life. I’d love to help her with no debt moving forward. I want to thank you for those of you who have been praying. Her father, Andrew, is a pastor in the local Chicago area. He has lead his family with humility as they continue to serve their community amidst the trials they are facing. I know the Wilsons have impacted so many peoples lives and I would like to ask if you would pray for Skylar and if you are able to help financially please give what you can. Thank you so much for your love and support. I will keep you posted during her time at the Mayo Clinic.
