I found what felt like thickened breast tissues On my right breast in Dec 2019. On 22nd Dec I had a biopsy and because of the Christmas holidays I had to wait until the 3rd Jan for my results. They told me it was an aggressive cancer ( grade 3), but early stages and none invasive. They told me they were confident a mastectomy followed by hormone treatment would be enough, but they would have to do a lymph node biopsy during surgery. Due to not having to have chemo therapy or radio therapy I opted for an immediate breast reconstruction. However, after surgery I was told the cancer was larger than they first thought and there was a 10cm mass 3cm of which was invasive and it had also spread into my lymph node. Now I need chemotherapy and radiotherapy and because of my type of cancer a year of target therapy. I was due to start chemotherapy, but my wound from the mastectomy wouldn’t heal and so my chemo was delayed. After 7 weeks of not being allowed to drive or do much at all I was just given the all clear to drive and go on long walks, then came corona virus. I’ve only had one chemo to date and I’m due my next one this Friday. I used the cool cap for my first treatment, but clumps of hair is still falling out in handfuls. Me and my son were finding my hair all over our house, so I decided to take the plunge and shave it off. However, I have been told not to leave my house only for hospital appointments. Due to the corona virus I’m facing cancer alone, and this also meant shaving my own head (my son couldn’t bring him self to do it for me). Charities all over the world are facing financial difficulties due to the corona virus so I’ve decided to try and do something positive.
