Hello! I have been Erica's step-father since she was 14 and she is now 23. Erica is a single mother of a handsome son who is almost four years old. Erica was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) in early 2018 when she was 21. Her struggle with UC has been difficult and has placed a financial strain on her and her her young son. Erica has has many days where her UC has prevented her from working and a couple major incidents that have had her out of work for almost six weeks between the two. Since her diagnosis Erica has undergone 13 Remicade treatments at a local Oncology Treatment Center at a cost of over $5000 each. Erica is covered by health insurance. But, the deductibles and copays have been significant during this time. The main issue, besides her almost constant pain and discomfort, is the extended time off of work due to the UC. Erica had exhausted all of her paid leave and will be taking leave without pay for most of this latest hospital stay of almost three weeks. She will still have some additional time off work after the release from the hospital for physical rehab and occupational therapy. Erica's mother and I are helping with Erica's son, keeping her house up, and doing whatever we can to bridge this gap. We are asking, on behalf of Erica, for your assistance in helping her be able to make up for the lost time at work and be able to cover these unexpected medical costs. Erica is a single mom, a new homeowner, has a full time job, and is a full time student. The impact of her unexpected unpaid time off will be significant. We hope Erica gets out of the hospital soon. Her son and the rest of her family are ready for her to come home!
