According to research, Black teachers have the highest turnover/quit rates of all teachers demographics (Carver-Thomas, 2018). One of the major hurdles Black teachers face are licensure exams such as the Praxis. In fact, Black teachers are the least likely of all demographics to pass licensure exams such as the Praxis (NCTQ, 2019) and therefore are the least likely to enter the profession even though recruitment numbers have increased overtime.
For the past two years, Fletcher Education Solutions has researched this very specific challenge and has worked with teachers one-on-one to provide resources and direct coaching on the Praxis I and II exams. We've recently relaunched the program as the Test Prep Institute and are eager to increase our efforts to support more teachers.
Given the inevitable impact COVID-19 will have on Black teachers, we are raising funds to double down on our efforts to help as many teachers as possible pass the Praxis exam this year. 100% of funds received will be used to purchase books, flashcards, and individual coaches (certified, experienced teachers) for each participant.
