Let's Become ONE For Alissa

My fellow Trade Sisters. It has come to my attention that a sister Electrician Apprentice in my local 48 union has recently been diagnosed with level 2 B-Cell Lymphoma. With this diagnoses she faces up to 6 months of chemo. Her apprenticeship has been put on hold. Her life been stalled. She needs her sisters. She is 21 years young and she needs our help. Below is her life bio...why she has chosen to become a lady of the trades. "Hello ladies, my name is Alissa lenczowski I am a 7th term apprentice from local 48 out of Portland, OR. I got started in the trades back in 2016, just 8 days after high school and about 4 days after my 18th birthday. I was at a community college my junior and senior year of high school when I knew I didn’t want to take on a bunch of student debt to get a degree so my dad suggested to become an electrician and get into the trades, so I did. And let me tell you that has been the best decision of my life. I started as a material handler back before applications opened to get some on the job experience until I could apply, in January of 2017 I applied but did not get in due to failing the aptitude test on the first try. I then had to wait another 6 months until applications would open again and I could retest! In June of 2017 I was then offered a chance to apply into a pre apprenticeship that was very competitive but a chance to get direct entry into the program. I got in, and within 7 weeks started my apprenticeship in August of 2017. I am now just completing my third year of school and just got diagnosed with stage two B cell lymphoma. It is a rare kind of cancer that if left untreated can kill you in less than a year. I have gone through a bunch of tests in the last month and have decided that I need to start treatment ASAP. I am having to put my apprenticeship on pause and take a leave from work until I feel good enough to be able to go back and the cancer is gone. They will have me on chemo 24 hours a day for 5 days in the hospital and then home for two weeks and then back to the hospital. I am having to take extra precautions with corona virus as well because I am at a high risk due to the weakened immune system so it’s not likely I will be able to return to work during these months of treatment. I am very hopeful that treatment will go smoothly and after the first 6-8 sessions I will be cancer free and be able to resume my place in the apprenticeship and get back to normal life. I am ready to kick cancers ass!" Now is the time to rally and support this precious human as she walks this walk of life. Now is the time we truly become sisters united across the globe. I love Alissa to the moon and back and want to step up and relieve her of the things she shouldn't even have to worry about as she battles her way through the big "C" word...cancer. #sistersunited #local48 #fuckcancer
