Lil Mikey Strong

In May of 2018 our 14 month old son, Mikey was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. We were living in Texas at the time, away from all our family with no support system. Our life was turned upside down. We spent all the money we had to cross the country so we could be with family while Mikey went through treatment. It took time and every cent we had and then some but we made it! Mikey went into remission in June 2018, we added another member to the family - Mikey’s little sister, Anehli. We were starting to get our footing again, then in October 2019 we took Mikey into the hospital because we had noticed a change in energy and appetite. Our worst nightmare came true and we were told the cancer had returned, and that we’d have to begin treatment all over again. Our older son is now old enough to understand what’s happening. He cried, that was a new level of heartbreak for all of us to experience. We started new chemo in November which is the first protocol when first round of chemo fails at the end of November we did a bone marrow biopsy and seen the cancer figured it way to beat the chemo and 2% was still there. So we had to try another chemo to try and keep his cancer down , we discussed a bone marrow transplant which thankfully his sister is his match but mikey has to be in remission to receive a bone marrow transplant, so our goal was to reach remission long enough to do a bone marrow transplant. We started them month long chemo and at the end we did another bone marrow biopsy then we seen the cancer grew to 80%. So now we are going to do two new chemo for 5 days to see if this can bring his cancer down to at least 50% so we can do a treatment called car T cell therapy. Car T cell therapy is a treatment where they take the person with cancer T cells and take them to a lab train the to be these super cells that beat cancer and put that back into his body to fight cancer, it’s very effective and has work in many patients like mikey, it’s just the side effect which are horrible and since we live so far we will have to live in the hospital the next 6 months because of all the side effect this treatment has. I know my son will come out find He has so much love and light in him and even through it all it is growing each day. He loves deeply, his brother and sister are his best friends. He’s always smiling and laughing, and loves to make others laugh. He’s an animal lover, our dog Kobe got him through his worst times. The dog would let Mikey hold him like a teddy, he became Mikey’s best friend during that time. I know my son deserves help, so I’m here asking for it against all odds. Everyone knows that the medical bills will be expensive, but you never even think about the cost of travelling 300 miles round trip for each treatment or when you both suddenly are stuck at a hospital 160 miles away from home for the next however many weeks. Leaving our other two children behind and still having to keep up the cost with them also and not being able to work has affected up tremendously. Mikeys ssi has helped us with things but they are going to cut us off when we stay in the hospital because they claim that the money mikey receives is his money and since hospital will be feeding him and housing him they are cutting us off. That money was helping me and my family keep our head above water. Our current goal is at $5,000so we can can help with his recovery with a couple months bills and cover some upcoming travel cost in addition to medical expenses. And to things my other children need while I’m away. There is no donation too small. A latte is $5, a meal out is $20, a night out is $100.
