On February 27, 2020, Tai had just dropped off her best friend following an afternoon of shopping and socializing. On her way home, to avoid hitting a deer, Tai was involved in an accident that changed the course of her life forever in Surry County, VA. Tai is 18 years old and a senior in high school with aspiration to pursue a career in Nursing after graduation.
As a result of the accident, it was determined that Tai fractured her collarbone and sustained C6 spinal injury, initially leaving her paralyzed from the ribs down and limited use of her hands and fingers. It is a miracle that she is alive, and the progress she has already made towards recovery – including regaining partial control of her hands and movement in her shoulders.
The road to recovery for Tai will be long, but she is dedicated to continuing her journey and living a full life. As we, her family and friends, are still in the wake of this devastating tragedy, it’s difficult to imagine what the future holds, but we know that Tai will never cease to be the brilliant, beautiful, high spirited and loving woman that she is. We simply need to be able to support her along that journey.
Tai will begin her rehabilitation at Shepard Center in Atlanta, GA. We are asking for your help to cover the costs of hospital stays, rehabilitation facilities, and 24/7 care for Tai as she transitions into a life that is different, but still her own. We also need help with housing, transportation, and food costs for our family as we support her during this time as we travel from Claremont, VA to Atlanta, GA for months of rehabilitation. Your support means the world to Tai and to all of us.
