Lets Get Charles Home

I am writing this on my husbands behalf. My name is Charles Mccaskill, 24 years old and Military-Medically and Honorably Retired from the Army. As you all know I am a heart transplant recipient, I had an LVAD in 2014 due to a sudden heart situation and was later diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy and in May of 2016 I had thankfully received a heart transplant in Miami, Florida.  Ever since Ive had no serious problems and am perfectly healthy.   The 13th of February, 2020 I had called and requested for EMS as I woke up, out of breathe randomly while laying in bed with chest pain. Paramedics had arrived within minutes and was transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville. Once I had arrived the doctors and nurses had done variety of testing and bloodwork that was needed to figure out what was going on. After the fact I was informed that my heart was only working at 10% and having two-types of rejection, my rejection fracture was at 20. I was informed then that I had to immediately be transported to Charlotte, North Carolina (3 hours away)  where the closest major transplant team was located. I arrived there the evening on the 13th. With his heart rate rising and fluttering between 110-160s. The Cardio Transplant team had decided to put me on the ECMO bypass on the 16th as well as inserting the Impella. Few days has gone by and there was no improvements and that was when his personal doctor decided to test out some medications in hoping to get his bloodwork levels back to normal, more biopsies, more heart catheters was needed.. they had informed us (Myself and my wife Alex) that depending on how everything has sailed through he would need a new heart.  This past weekend there has been some improvements thankfully! Even though the doctors and the transplant team was still concerned about his heart rate being high as it is but every other vital has improved and stayed steady, had surgery on February 22nd to have BOTH Impella and the ECMO out as they believed they can let my body rest and to see if I would continue to improve on my own. There has been some complications but has been dealt with professionally with care. Ever since then Ive been on many different medications and bloodwork has improved and right now I’m still sitting in the hospital with NO IVs and vitals are stable while heart rate is still high. Heart is currently working at 45% and rejection fraction at 50. Will be having a cardio conversion shock tomorrow February 27. Still currently having a rejection but have a long way ahead to get better and will be having more daily intake medications and more frequent appointments.  Charles- I am writing this because since I have been here the 13th of this month and my wife has been out of work. We need help as when I do and unsure of when I will be discharged, I will have to take it SUPER easy for quite a few months, will be unable to work, and to help relieve the stress of my wife and I . ALL FUNDS would go towards to our personal and medical bills to be caught up and not get caught behind as we will have medical expenses (my medications and new medications will be more costly monthly after this difficult situation.) We never ASK but we feel this was an appropriate time to ask for help.. We thank all the prayers we have received and asking for more to get better soon and cant wait to be home to be with everyone we love. We love you all and we want to thank in advance for every donations given, every prayers, EVERYTHING ❤️
