As many of you probably know by now, Daryl has started his fight against a rare autoimmune disease which is also affecting his lungs. The disease has now progressed and Daryl is awaiting a double lung transplant to help him resume some of the activities that many of us take for granted.
Daryl is currently in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and is being treated by doctors who are familiar with his condition and they are some of the best specialists around. Daryl is in good spirits and fighting hard and we all know that if anyone is a fighter, its Daryl. Daryl is still cracking jokes and doing the things that make us laugh and love him for who he is. All of the doctors, nurses, techs, cleaning personnel, and social workers know him on a first name basis (of course). Every day they tell him he is the best patient they have.
Becky is by his side and he has a great support system around him. Both of their positive attitudes and upbeat spirits have resonated around the hospital. Daryl and his family are prepared for the next chapter of this crazy thing we call life. We will update Daryl’s journey on the Caring Bridge website as more information becomes available. Many people have visited, called, texted, and sent words of encouragement. It is amazing how many people Daryl knows and how many people he has touched. You can continue to send well wishes through Caring Bridge:

This will be a long journey but Daryl and Becky will get through this with the continued love and support of everyone in their life. Many people have donated food and gift cards and his family greatly appreciates it. We are also starting a GoFundMe account based on the outpouring of requests from family, friends, and coworkers who asked how else they can be of assistance. The money from the GoFundMe account will go toward medical bills and medication that might not be covered by insurance, possibly a medical bed for their home after the surgery, and other essentials that will be necessary once he receives that transplant. Feel free to share this link as well as the GoFundMe link. If you do visit Daryl in the hospital, please make sure you are not sick and have not been sick in recent weeks. Daryl can not get sick while waiting for his transplant or he will be bypassed. Please keep the Fennell family in your prayers and they appreciate the outpouring of support during this difficult time. We will update this sight as often as possible and ask that you be patient with us as our main focus is on supporting Daryl and Becky.
Deepest gratitude for all your support.
