F*CK CANCER
     My name is Erick Franca,
It's hard to find the right words for this but I am gonna try my best.
I come from a very proud and stubborn family, so asking for help does not come easy to me.  This is probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do--I'm surprised my tears haven't broken my keyboard yet--but my family is in desperate need of help at the moment.
My dad, Duarte Franca, is in a losing battle with cancer.
Life is not fair. That is one thing I learned at an early age, and apparently someone upstairs felt I needed a reminder of that. When I was 7 I lost my mom to Cancer and now I'm losing my dad to it, too... 2 things in life are certain, death and taxes. Unfortunately, sometimes they tend to go hand in hand.
I am starting this fund to help alleviate some of the financial stress my family is currently going through. Hospital bills have piled on top of our regular bills; things are getting a little unreal, and a lot of stress is falling upon my family. I want to try and help my step-mom out with some of these bills. By my count, were are probably $15k in debt over this whole thing, if not more. That's not including  the expenses we will have when he passes away.
Here is a little information on what has been going on with my dad, Duarte Franca.
On May 22nd, my father was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his appendix. By the time it was discovered, it was already at Stage 4 and had spread to other areas of his digestive system. The past 9 months have been an intense battle with aggressive chemo treatment.  For a moment, it even felt like we were winning the battle--his cancer markers even dropped from 165 to 55. But early this month, things took a turn for the worst, and he wasn't able to hold down any food or water. We had to admit him into the hospital.  The doctors found that he had multiple system failure, which means most of his body functions were shutting down. His health took a pretty deep dive in a matter of . Even to the point that he had to be resuscitated.  After being sedated for a week after he was resuscitated, he finally woke up, but he has also lost the will to keep up the fight. He is still unable to eat or drink anything and his abdomen is constantly filling up with liquid that has to be drained. All he wanted to do is come home and be with his family.  On Feb 20th, we were finally able to bring him home. He is currently going through hospice care here at home. And we are doing everything we can to make him comfortable and be at peace. When he came home today, he had the biggest smile and wanted some beer and to smoke a little ganja, My dad never smoked and actually disliked weed, but hey, who am I to judge. I actually had a blast shotgunning him some dabs from my puffco today. :) We took some dabs and watched Planet Earth :) Dad wants to go out like a champ,  I'll make it happen. We will do whatever we can to make him happy and put a smile on his face. If we can raise a little money before he passes, so he knows the family will be ok and some of his bills will be paid for, I'm sure it would bring him a lot of peace of mind.
I'm writing this because I know there are still some good people out there that truly like to help others. Please help us if you can, anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated.  If you can't help I hope this at least moves you to tell your parents you love them, make the most of your time with them, and not take life for granted. Also if you feel something is off about your body or health, don't be afraid to go to hospital and get it checked out. My dad has always been of good health, before this happened he would run miles at the beach.
