Aloha Ohana, My name is Charmaine I’m the wife of Virgil “Uncle Moki” Day. A couple days ago uncle Moki had returned home to his kupuna. I’ve got to live a beautiful life with my husband. I’ve been by his side as he fought tirelessly for Hawaiian rights and everything that was Pono for the Hawaiian people. Uncle Moki left us suddenly, we are working on getting funeral arrangements ready for him. Uncle Moki was a veteran and would continue to be a warrior till the very end. He was the Vice President of pele defense fund, a staunch advocate of āina and iwi kupuna. He was a pioneer and an aloha āina from the very beginning. He was a core member of the P.K.O Protect Kahoolawe Ohana In 1976, he was involved in the creation of the Hawaiian island burial council and developing programs and protocols that involved caring for iwi kupuna. He was essential in the creation of Wa o Kele o Puna forest reserve, Hawai’i’s largest remaining wet lowland forest. Uncle Moki and his family were pioneers in the resettlement of the Hawaiian lands of Kahikinui; and lived his last years raising his 4 grandchildren. He is Survived by his wife, son, daughter and four grandchildren, as well as three brothers and one sister and hundreds of friends.
