For over 9 years, we have been working toward the goal of completing the construction and founding of a Christian-based language school in the Santome Barrio (neighborhood) sector of San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic. The objective of this school or institute will be to benefit low-income youth and adults in the area by teaching them English, and perhaps other languages such as Haitian Creole and French. With the knowledge of a second language, individuals have more opportunities for employment and are more likely to break out of the cycle of poverty. Classes will be taught with the included purpose of presenting the Gospel of Christ to students. Our official name for the school is now "VALLEY ENGLISH INSTITUTE" (Victory for Every Individual)--V.E.I. These words will be in our logo and also painted onto the wall of the building that faces the street.
One year ago, we raised over $1,200 through online and donations through the Free Will Baptist Church. THANK YOU again to all who donated!! This was a great help toward the work accomplished in 2020, in spite of the challenges presented by covid restrictions. It was impossible to take a mission team for the Fall trip last year, but significant progress was still made with the construction of the institute building. The exterior and interior stucco were completed, and the perimeter wall was constructed. See the latest photos below, as well as our first promotional video!! The support raised in this campaign will be a great blessing and will help in accomplishing work on the building which needs to be done before the next team of workers/missionaries goes to San Juan as early as this coming fall.
