Family Left to Mourn Husband/Father After House Fire Destroys Home. On the afternoon of Tuesday February 4th 2020, Mother and daughter journeyed home as usual. Unbeknownst to them, this day would be anything but routine. The ambulance that raced pass them as they approached their neighborhood was in route to the hospital with husband and father, Bernard Dunbar Jr (BJ), 38. The two approached their residence to find the home engulfed in flames and firemen working aimlessly to control the fire, but unfortunately the home was deemed a total loss. Even more horrific is the devastating news that soon followed. Andrea, 35 (wife) and Heaven, 14 (daughter) were informed they needed to get to the hospital immediately as BJ fell victim to the fire and was found inside unresponsive and "not doing well". This dreadful news grew more heartbreaking as their 8yr old son, Bernard Dunbar III, soon stepped off of his school bus and embarked upon a charred home to watch this tragedy unfold. The cause of the fire is currently unknown as BJ remain in critical condition on the burn unit fighting for his life with second and third degree burns covering 40-50% of his body. Carbon monoxide poisoning, infection, and organ failure are all major concerns at this time as medical personnel attempt to care for him and nurse him back to health. Family were informed anything could change by the hour and the chances of mortality are 50%. While staff discuss possible vision loss, amputation of fingers, a long road to recovery with numerous surgeries "if" he survives, we choose to focus on the positive of a 50% chance of survival and life with BJ "when" he recovers!
