On Monday, January 27th, Marlena brought her 10-month old daughter Alanna to the ER at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach. A couple days earlier, Marlena had noticed that Alanna's abdomen was firm and distended. After ruling out constipation, Marlena dropped big brother Aiden at preschool, had him kiss his sister goodbye, and took Alanna to the ER to see if she had maybe swallowed something she shouldn't have. An X-Ray showed that it was a massive tumor in her abdomen, and from that moment, Curtis, Marlena, Aiden (3.5yrs old)and Alanna's lives were turned upside down.
Alanna has, what doctor's believe, is stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer in the abdomen, with cancer also in her lymph nodes near the spine. They are waiting on additional test results to confirm diagnosis and then a treatment plan will be put in place. At this point, chemotherapy will be needed to shrink the tumor for removal.
As they navigate this scary new world, living out of the hospital for an extended period of time, any help is greatly appreciated so they can keep their focus on getting Alanna healthy.
