Treatments may fail, but love certainly can't

For my Mother, Laura.
The purpose...
The whole purpose of a Go Fund Me page is to reach a financial goal & obviously there is a financial need that I am trying to meet. However, this page was created by a daughter critically doing anything to help her mom in every way possible. Failed cancer treatments have prevented my mom from returning to work & that is how we got to this point. I am a stay at home mother of 4 and not in a financial position to do much for my mom regarding finances – but I can make this page. I can’t speak of a time when my mom failed to help me, or had a reason that she wasn’t able to help. I feel I owe her considerably for everything she’s done. I always imagined that when my Mom turned into an old lady or if something serious happened that I would have so much to give. The summer of 2019 let me know that it wasn’t going to happen like I imagined & that I would barely be able to help her.
What happened...
My mom has not been able to work since summer of 2019. One of her first appointments was a PET scan which had been scheduled that summer. During her appointment for her PET scan she had to be admitted to the emergency unit because suddenly her speech became different & clearly something was wrong. We found out that she has stage IV lung cancer & that it had spread to her brain which was causing these symptoms. She underwent brain surgery to remove the cancer. Since then, she has faced chemo, radiation, and two treatment plans all of which have seemed to have failed. This whole process has kept her from returning to work & we don’t know if or when she will be able to go back. Her most recent treatment began January 23rd, 2020 and it will be sometime before bloodwork or scans can be done to determine whether the treatment is working.
Background information...
Laura has always been a single mother to my brother and I and has always worked full time to support us. For the past 22 years she has worked at the United States Post Office. She chose to work the overnight shift because it pays more and almost always worked her holidays to earn the extra pay. Being as independent and as self-reliant as she is, I know the change in her work status has disheartened her since working tirelessly is all she’s ever done until July in 2019. During her emergency admittance after her PET scan, she kept asking the Drs. “So, when am I going to be able to get back to work?” Even during her first round of chemo she would say “I just have to get through this so I can get back to work.” My mom worked so vigorously she never had to ask anyone for anything. She worked hard enough to have something to spare to be able to show support for others. If you were someone she supported, please consider this opportunity to return the support to her!!
Supporting Laura...
Although our family is doing everything we can to manage the expenses of her situation, we are a very small family and cannot seem to handle all of the costs. My brother is a single dad of two daughters & is also not in a financial position to help as much as he wishes he could, my Grandma is using her money to help us through this but it is has proven to not be enough. That’s it, that’s our family. Many of my mom’s bills have fallen behind and all of her daily needs have changed. All donations would be applied to catching up past due bills, daily living expenses (gas to get her to appointments), any parts of treatment not covered by insurance, and any unforeseen medical bills. There is truly so much gratitude coming from my heart to anyone who is inclined to help me help my mom. I will post updates regarding any changes in her condition.
1 Corinthians 16:14 “Let all you do be done with love.” I love you momma.
Sincerely, Laura's daughter
