The Australian Para Beach Volleyball team is part of a growing worldwide community of adaptive athletes, with a physical disability and a passion for our sport. In May 2019 our self-funded squad of three – Nic Kaiser (VIC), Nick Coburn (VIC) and Bradley Barclay (WA) attended the first Beach Para Volley World Series event In Pingtan Beach China. With minimal time to train as a team leading into the World Series event we put in a strong showing, finishing the event in 6th position. After a successful competition the event will be scheduled again for 2020 this May, and our goal is to send at least one Men's team as well as the first ever Australian Women's Beach Para Volleyball Team. Australia will also be hosting a Beach Para Volleyball Event in May 2021 in conjunction with the Arafura Games in Darwin, which will be the first Disabled Volleyball event held in Australia since the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games. The success of this organisation is largely dependent on financial support from corporations and individual sponsors. Due to not being a current Paralympic Sport, our program gets no funding from the Australian Paralympic Committee or Volleyball Australia. With financial assistance the Australian Para Beach Volleyball Team will be able to support athletes with travel and provide training and development camps, to grow the sport and identify the next generation of athletes. Our goal for our sport in Australia to develop a junior pathway for young athletes with a disability to participate in our sport. The governing body World Para Volley is also seeking to have the Para Beach format included in the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. Thanks in advance.
