Death Row Expressions Inc (DRE Inc.) was founded as a collaboration between a therapist and William Leonard who has been incarcerated on death row for over 30 years. DRE Inc was established to assist the incarcerated with engagement in theraputic activities such as art and literary expression. We also assist with self publication of journals, poetry, and products made with their art. Engagement in art and literary expression among the incarcerated can greatly improve mental health, reduce violence within the prison, and provide these individuals with a sense of dignity and purpose. Unfortunately, such programs are not offered within the prison system, we are not allowed into the prisons to facilitate these programs due to COVID, and the incarcerated are expected to purchase their own art supplies including pens, pencils, markers, paper, envelopes, stamps, tablets, etc. This organization helps them do that. However, without community support this organization is not able to assist them properly. Any funds obtained through donations, or sales of books and products goes directly back to the incarcerated participants for continued involvement in therapuetic activities.
