Judy is making excellent progress in healing and with physical therapy for her leg following surgery on December 6. Because of the nature and severity of the fracture to her tibia, her doctor has prohibited weight-bearing until at least February 28. (12 weeks post-op)
Unfortunately, her medical insurance has rejected her request and 2 appeals for continued 24/7 skilled rehab since by their criteria she hasn’t made sufficient progress. They require her to either be weight-bearing by this time or able to hop on her good leg.
Because Judy also suffers from Primary Lateral Sclerosis (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/primary-lateral-sclerosis/symptoms-causes/syc-20353968) which causes weakened muscles and balance problems, Judy is unable to meet their standard. (Insurance will continue to pay for physical and occupational therapy)
On Wednesday, January 15, Judy will be going home. We’re arranging 24/7 care for her and hope to rely on friends to volunteer but will surely need some amount of paid nursing care as well.
