Anyone who knows Jamie Goodman knows she is an inquisitive scientist, a dedicated activist, and a devoted friend. Jamie is continually prioritizing her studies and causes above herself. She has worked incredibly hard and put herself at considerable risk in the name of reproductive justice and immigration justice. She is a tireless teacher in her work and also mentors and trains younger activists. In short, she is always pushing through her own fears to help others and build a better world.
This Thursday, January 16th, Jamie will undergo a surgery with a 4 to 6 week recovery period, during which she cannot work. She is fortunate to have medical coverage, but she relies on the money she makes as a teaching assistant to cover living expenses, and we all know that TA's aren't exactly making the big bucks.
During Jamie's recovery, she will need to rest for long periods of time, and will need a lot of support with basic things such as meals, cleaning, and walking her doggo, Caldwell. She will also need distractions and a cozy, comfortable place to relax -- when Jamie's friends came together to tidy up her room pre surgery, they discovered her living space was *quite* spartan, and so we wanted to get her some modestly priced linens and appliances to help her keep her spirits up while she recuperates.
The goal on this crowdfund is a way for Jamie's friends and family to contribute to her living expenses and creature comforts during her recovery. If you, like us, love Jamie and want to show your support, but live too far away to go on a grocery run, do a few loads of laundry, bring her a new fluffy pillow, or take Caldwell for a walk, then this is a space to contribute!
