Law Enforcement United Bicycle Ride
Donation protected
This May, I plan on riding 500 Miles on a bicycle from Raleigh, North Carolina to Washington, DC for the SECOND TIME. All funds will go to family’s of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The organization is called Law Enforcement United, and it organizes a massive ride called the Ride for Hope.
To be able to participate again, I must raise $1500.00 as a rider.
Last Year, I rode for Officer Jared Franks from
The Greensboro police Department, NC. Jared was killed in a vehicle crash while responding to a robbery in progress call. Jared served only 2.5 years with his department. End of Watch: 11/10/2018
The New Bern Police Department has lost three during its history as well. Sergeant Carl Ellis Mayo Jr. (End of Watch: May 29,1960), Detective Donald Miller (End of Watch: December 25th, 2001) and most recent, Patrolman Alexander Edward Thalmann (End of Watch: March 31st, 2014).
Retired Trooper John Surles put it best to me the day I graduated the academy, "The respect given to us … when we put the badge over our heart ... is earned from those who came before us.” Let’s not let those who came before us down.”
I will prepare for the Ride for Hope and attempt this ride with your help. I again, want to give back to those who lost their lives in a career and city I serve in.
Thank you for your overwhelming support last year. The memories gathered during the experience were unforgettable. I hope to have the honor to ride again.
Respectfully,
Josh
