Help the Halleys beat the odds! When a devoted husband and father, brother, friend, son- and brother-in-law, co-worker and team player is sick, it breaks some hearts. That's what is happening for the loved ones of John Halley. As an IT guy for Public Safety and sexton for their church, John is always busy making sure things are done and his family is cared for. He is also dedicated to helping men find recovery from addiction. He has a lot to live for, and a lot to share. On December 15th, John's trip to the ER for abdominal pain took a shocking turn that none of us expected. After a CT scan showed masses on his liver and pancreas and a blood clot close to his spleen, John was admitted for more tests and pain management. Further tests revealed that John has Stage IV pancreatic cancer that has spread. Because of the type of pancreatic cancer he has, drs agreed that John should start chemotherapy immediately. John, Stephanie, and their 2 boys (9 and 10 years old) are discovering together what none of us wants to discover - what it means to fight for your life. When Steph had to take John to the ER again on Christmas night because of the severity of the chemo side effects, the boys realized a little more what it means to have a very sick dad. Since the 15th, the Halleys' new reality is, and will be for awhile, full of unknowns. But even in the midst of this overwhelming trial, they are grateful for the village that surrounds them. Chemo treatments, intense pain and nausea, trips to Hopkins, almost a dozen medications, medical tests...these are a part of the new normal. Unfortunately, they come at a high cost - emotionally, mentally, physically, and yes, financially. The Halleys went quickly from a mountaintop to a valley, as Stephanie was just in the midst of transitioning to a new position as Executive Director of the Addiction Healing Center at the Westminster Rescue Mission, a cause near and dear to both Stephanie and John. The Halley crew has been excited about the new journey and ministry that the whole family was undertaking. John's diagnosis has stopped them in their tracks. While Stephanie will begin in her new role, it will be a much tougher transition with all that has transpired. While they figure this out, the bills are already coming in - from hospitals and doctor's offices, for medical appointments and tests, for the many products and medicines needed for a sick cancer patient. As friends and family of the Halleys, we invite you to be a part of the Halley's village by supporting them financially, so they're able to pay for the bills and adjust to changes in income. Donating here will help them pay the medical and cancer-related expenses that unfortunately are already coming in. If you would like to see updates on John and the Halleys, please check their caringbridge website at caringbridge.org/visit/johnhalley , and through that site, feel free to sign up for other ways to provide practical support as well. Thank you for all of the love and support you are offering this great family. This time next year, let's celebrate what this village has been able to do together!!
