I want to start out by saying how incredibly lucky we are to have the support system that we do. The messages of concern, compassion, and love have helped us get through the first part of this difficult process. These are uncharted waters for us so having the emotional support of our loved ones is extremely important to us. With all of my heart, I want to thank you for being there for us.
A few people have reached out to me about gifts of some sort to help out my parents. Given certain aspects of the situation being up in the air, it's hard to say exactly what would be most helpful for them, but I do not want to deny family and friends the opportunity to help out if they wish to do so. Since they are in a different state for an unknown amount of time I thought that setting up a GoFundMe account would be the best way to go about this. It will allow us to get the most out of everyone's contributions while keeping things organized and efficient.
Since this was not completely my idea, and I am not good at asking for things, I have no clue what to set our goal for. I can't even say that we have a goal as in a dollar amount, I just wanted to create an outlet for anyone wanting to help. Off the top of my head these funds would be used for things like hospital parking and gas since my dad is traveling to and from the hospitals every day and having to pay for parking each time. This would also be very helpful for those who wanted to help with food in some way. Gift cards can be great but they are tough when you don't know what restaurants are around, or you end up with multiple to the same locations. There is a potential for bigger expenses like AirBnB since they will be staying in the Baltimore/DC area much longer than expected. These funds could also help with little things like laundry while my dad is staying in hotels. There are a lot of expenses that get overlooked so thank you to everyone who has brought that up along with your interest to help out.
