Michael Merenda served his community as a Stamford Police Officer for 19 years, retiring only 4 short years ago. During his career, he proudly wore the department’s Ceremonial Unit uniform and led the men and women as the Stamford Police Association President for several terms. Mike has always been the guy to call when you needed something. On many occasions, Mike was referred to as “everyone’s 2am phone call”, meaning that he would answer the phone, spring into action and help anyone with anything, even if it was 2am. During, and even after his career with the department, Mike organized multiple fundraisers for injured or sick officers in their most desperate times. Unfortunately, now Mike is the one in need. Mike has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer. He will have months of chemo, several surgeries and a difficult recovery, causing him to lose vital income, making it nearly impossible to provide for his 2 sons, Christian (13) and Joey (12).
