We are setting up a GoFundMe account on behalf of Ryan and his amazing family. The Deters family is one of the most genuine and kind-hearted families that I know. Even during this incredibly difficult time for Ryan, it is amazing to see their strength and support for each other and their love for Ryan is breathe taking. For any of you that may not know, Ryan had gone in for surgery pre-op for shoulder, thinking the next week would be surgery. To everyone’s surprise, the pre-op turned into one’s worst nightmare and Ryan has been in the hospital since 11/11/19, working with doctors to figure out how to treat the 7-inch cancerous tumor they found leaning on his heart and pushing on his only lung. They have already performed surgery (similar to open heart surgery) cracking his chest open to try and remove the tumor. Ryan had too much bleeding and it became too dangerous for the surgeon to proceed. Ryan and his family are working closely with surgeons and a great team of oncologists to figure out the best plan for Ryan and further medical treatment. The road ahead will be tough, and the unknown is definitely scary. With everyone’s love and support it will help him get through this. Ryan has had a few setbacks and his family is by his side every hour. Until he fully heals from the surgery and is able to get stronger, he will not be able to go home, and the medical bills continue to pile up. This diagnosis not only carries an enormously heavy weight emotionally, but financially as well. Many of you know that Ryan is a true survivor and one heck of a fighter as he already fought this awful demon once 17 years ago. He went through what doctors told him would be the only chemo his body would ever be able to handle (what they called lifelong dose) of Chemotherapy. Many were unsure that he was going to make it, as the Chemo was so hard on him and he was so incredibly weak. He made it and WON, and he is GOING TO DO IT AGAIN! However, as friends and family, we need to pull together to lesson the burden on not only Ryan but his family as well. As the bills continue to add up while residing in the hospital and at his home given the time of year, Ryan will be responsible for high deductibles for both 2019 and 2020. There is no definitive timetable for when Ryan will go home or when treatment will begin. We as the Deters rally team need to pull together and help them as they would do for each and everyone of us. Lee Ann Running and I hold Ryan, Amy and Ginger Deters close to our hearts as Ginger has been a dear friend and coworker to Lee Ann for over 25 years and like a mother to me for the past 5 years. She is the most selfless person that we know and has always been there for all of us. Her daughter Amy has been my dear friend for several years and hasn’t left Ryan’s side since this all began. Remember with your support, Ryan will be able to focus on what is most important…… Healing
