Oratorical Festival 2020
Donation protected
The Sydney R. Daniels Oratorical Festival for Black History Month will enter its 32nd year at Harold Washington College. This Festival was designed to celebrate the lives of noteworthy African Americans with the hope of motivating and inspiring students to work toward excellence in their chosen fields of study. Unfortunately in today's climate of education funding being cut, we are now forced to raise the money for the scholarships students would get to compete in this event.
At the Festival students will compete for a top award of $1,000 by giving memorized speeches to a large audience that includes several judges. Our judges volunteer their time so that the students can get larger monetary awards. It is our goal again this year to raise a total of $3,000 for all six of the placements - 1st $1,000; 2nd $750; 3rd $500; 4th $300; 5th $250; and 6th place $200.
Based on your donation, we would be willing to sponsor a placement in your name or the name of your organization. All money raised will be deposited to the City Colleges of Chicago Foundation, and then go directly to the students after the competition. They can use their award for books and tuition (which is incredibly helpful to them given the cost of education today). If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
