Adi Strong

My name is Katarina Perez and I am writing this on behalf of my 22 month-old niece, Adeline Beckler, and her entire family. On November 29th, Adi had a routine doctor’s appointment for what Jen thought was a possible minor ear infection. Adi had been especially clingy and fussy over the last week or so. Her ears checked clear, and on a whim we mentioned to the doctor a small bruise Jen noticed the night before. The bruise was about the size of a golf ball, but located just above her right hip which is an unusual spot. The doctor ordered some blood work just to be on the safe side. Two hours later, they got a phone call asking to go straight to Kaiser Roseville so Adi could be admitted. After they checked in, the doctor introduced herself. Her white coat said Hematology/Oncology under her name. Oncology. Cancer. Our world was about to be turned on its head. She said that the pathologist who reviewed her blood under the microscope immediately contacted her. They only had 1 mL of blood left from the sample and sent it via courier to a specialty lab in Berkeley. The results would take approximately 24 hours, but based on the blood test results, she is certain Adi has Leukemia. Fast forward to November 30th, the results are back and Adi is diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). 4 out of 5 children diagnosed with Leukemia have ALL. The doctor described it as "The Garden Variety" Leukemia. Luckily, the prognosis is very good but the battle is just beginning. While Adi’s doctors are optimistic about her prognosis, the road to recovery will be very difficult for the entire family. They will be faced with many challenges, including the many medical bills, medications and other related expenses associated with providing Adi with the best possible treatment and care. Due to needing around the clock care, Scott will not be returning to work at this time. I am asking for support from the community to help provide Adi with everything she needs to win this fight against Leukemia. Adi is so strong and will fight this battle, when they drew her blood Sunday morning, she put her arm out, they poked it and she didn't even cry. This kid is a hammer! Jen, Scott and Adi’s 4 year old sister, Olivia, are willing to do everything they possibly can to fight right alongside her. Donations of any size, many prayers and sharing of this page with your network of family and friends are all important way that you can help. We are so incredibly blessed to have so many wonderful people lifting us up through this journey. The love has been truly overwhelming, and we are so grateful for all of the ongoing prayers and support. Thank you!
