In early 2017, my brother Jeffrey was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH)- typically a juvenile cancer, it is extremely rare in adults, affecting literally 1 in a million.
That April he started a 12 month treatment plan which included IV and oral chemotherapy. Thanks to the support of his employer, he managed to adjust his schedule and work throughout his treatment. One year later- he was cancer free!
In October 2018, his cancer was found to be active again and even more aggressive this time.
His doctors set out to suppress the spread of the disease and protect his organs from further damage with 6 months of oral chemo and another 12 months of IV. This time, strongly recommending he take long term disability to rest his body during treatment. Reluctantly, he agreed.
Disability is a mere 60% of his regular salary but his monthly medical bills remain the same. Monthly he undergoes regular diagnostic monitoring including biopsies, PET scans, MRI and CT scans. On top of this- a recent 7 day hospital stay with multiple blood transfusions! It has become increasingly difficult for him to cover all his continued expenses.
Through it all, he has managed to display more strength and courage than even he knew he had! As a single father to two beautiful and brilliant daughters, his positive outlook is a true inspiration. We should all live by his mantra- “Don’t let adversity destroy you. Let adversity motivate you” We could not be prouder of how he has faced this beast head on, always, Shelton Strong!
It is never easy to ask for help- especially difficult for a Shelton :) But in this season of light, love and giving- I ask you to please consider supporting my beloved brother in his time of need.
XO- Kristina
