Victim of Drunk Driving: Marlene Colon
Donation protected
On the night of November 23, 2019, my mother was on her way home from New York City. Since it was a rainy night and close to 11 P.M my little brother decided to meet and accompany her. As they both were walking on the sidewalk almost reaching their residence, my mother saw the vehicle approaching. With no regard for her own life, she pushed my brother out of the way. Unfortunately, they were both struck. I was informed that the driver was intoxicated. My mother, Marlene Colon, sustained grave injuries. She suffered a shattered pelvis, fractured skull, minor brain bleeding, clavicle fracture, fractured spine, broken tibia, 2 ACL tears, a torn MCL, and injured her left foot . My brother broke his collar bones and his leg. They both have had numerous surgeries. Marlene has been a Teacher’s Aide for the past twenty two years for the Jersey City Board of Education. Although, she does have medical insurance we are responsible to pay for transportation to and from the hospital costing about $400 each ride. She is still currently going through surgeries and has numerous doctors appointments to attend. The transportation process is extremely difficult for me because she cannot be transported in a regular car. My mom is at risk of losing her apartment where she has lived for the past 28 years because she no longer has an income. Please help me save her apartment & to have reliable transportation to her doctors' appointments. I am seeking whatever help I can get to continue to allow her to have a place to live and to have the urgent transportation she needs on a frequent basis. Our lives have changed through this devastating accident and we need all the help we can get. This unfortunate event has not only affected my mother and brother but has affected our entire family due to drunk driving.
