Almost a year ago, my Wife Julie got diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). A type of cancer stemming from the bone marrow that produces excessive immature blood cells called blasts, that don’t mature into healthy functioning cells. A few of the non severe symptoms include: bruising easily, fatigue, and shortness of breath. She underwent Induction Therapy (the first time) October 2018 (10 days of chemotherapy and over a month recovery in the hospital) following Consolidation Therapies for 5 months (5-6 days each month at the hospital). She was declared in remission (no signs of leukemic blasts) last April. She then switched from blood draws twice a week to only once a month to monitor her cells, but in July we recieved a call from her main Oncologist that the leukemia came back and she would need to get re-admitted. She then had to do a second Induction chemotherapy and was admitted in the hospital for 40+ days (following more days getting Consolidation chemo). The plan now includes a Bone Marrow transplant (wipe out all her blood cells in her bone marrow and infuse healthy new cells from a donor). It will be very challenging, but I know we'll get through this. They are searching for donors that are a 10/10 match to make sure the transplant will be successful. If you are interested in getting tested or want to help other people in need, please consider signing up at bethematch.org. I am so proud of Julie for staying strong and being the warrior that she is! I love you to infinity and beyond!
