Hello,
My name is Jess Sakuda and since moving to Kenya in 2016 I have been involved with Ronesa Junior School, a growing private school in Olosho-oibor Village in rural Maasai Land.
Here at Ronesa we are determined to change the education options to the children of our community and we know that early literacy is the key to future success.
We want to expand our library program from kindergarten to grade 4 and need your help to do so!
We have wonderful teachers who are dedicated and well trained but we don't have the resources for them to implement the programs to their best ability.
In our area, children at home have no access to books before starting kindergarten and the national government of Kenya has just rolled out a new competency based curriculum as well. With all these changes and our dedication to quality education in a low income area we need story books, text books and teachers resources to implement these things in full.
We want our kids to be readers, learners and the best that they can be! Literacy is the foundation of this!
We will also be installing electricity and developing a computer room in January 2020. From there we will be starting computer classes with some donated laptops for now. We will be THE ONLY SCHOOL IN OUR AREA offering this, including high schools!
We are aiming to raise $4,000AUD to fill our library full with story books, text books, teaching resources and possibly some new laptops if we reach the goal.
This is an example of donation cost breakdowns:
$5 - 2 x small story books in English or Kiswahili (Goal: 100 sets = 200 books, total cost $500)
$10 - 1 larger story book in English or Kiswahili (Goal: 100 books, total cost $1,000)
$30 - Full set of text books for one child (Goal: 9 subjects each, 60 sets = 540 books, total coast $1,800)
$50 - Full set of teachers guides for 1 class teacher (Goal: 1 full set needed and some supplementary, total cost $200)
$70 - Teachers curriculum designs for new curriculum in Grade 4 (Goal: 1 full set, total cost $70)
TOTAL: $3,570
If we go over our goal OR someone wants to donate a full laptop they are welcome to and that will be on top of our book drive.
$400 - a new Spark Kids Laptop, perfect for school use.
All items will be purchased brand new from registered shops and once we are done we will update you with the full financial statement if you request it, via email.
The new school year in Kenya starts on January 6th, 2020 so we would love to move quickly and get the items as soon as possible.
If you have any questions about the fundraiser, living in Kenya, other ways you can support Ronesa including visiting us for volunteer work please contact me directly.
Even if you can't donate, please share on your social media page, email some friends or talk directly to people about us
Jess
