Stair Lift For Gracie
Donation protected
As many of you already know Grace has been in and out of the hospital multiple times this year. Her mobility has gone from completely independent to almost completely wheelchair bound in less than a year. The docs say it’s a “perfect storm” of issues. Her previous cancer treatments and her long term steroid use for her strokes have weakened her bones and her limited vision effecting her mobility that lead to muscle weakness have just continued to snowball. together making her worse. We had hoped the hospitalization in Sept was helping and making her stronger but instead seemed to cause more harm than good and resulted in stress fractures in both hips that have set her back even more. We live in a split level house.Everyday it takes her 3 hrs to get from her bedroom downstairs and to the car for school. She is in so much pain and exerts so much energy that it makes her throw up daily through that routine. We’ve tried to make all the accommodations we can by having her sit to get up and down stairs, put in commodes in her room and the living room, walkers upstairs and down, and recently started using an office chair to wheel her from room to room upstairs because we can’t fit her wheelchair up there much less carry it. The therapists at CHOP told us we need to consider the reality that she may never get back to baseline and she could eventually get worse and we need to plan for that. We will eventually need a wheelchair ramp and other fixes to the house but right now a stair lift is a major priority. A stair lift would enable her dignity to use the bathroom in private and more importantly relief from vomiting in pain daily trying to get to her bed or the shower. Per CHOP this is not something insurance will cover and while there are charities out there , they are few and still would take months if they did come through. We got an estimate for a lift and it will cost $3000 installed for one to go to her bedroom and bathroom. So we figured the best possibility for a solution quickly would be to try to raise funds this way. Thank you in advance to anyone who might be able to help no matter how much ,every dollar helps.
