On Monday, November 13, Erika’s family and friends got a big scare when she was rushed to the emergency room with a brain injury. She collapsed early that morning in the street while preparing to take her young son, Miles, to school. Thanks to the quick response of a passing stranger and a neighbor, paramedics were quickly summoned and she was taken to the nearest hospital. Erika experienced brain swelling due to bleeding of her brain. The doctors were uncertain if the trauma of the fall caused the bleeding or if the bleeding preceded the fall (aneurysm). She is currently in the hospital in the ICU undergoing extensive testing and has made considerable progress since Monday night...interacting with the hospital staff and her family. Her healing will be a delicate process and it is imperative she not be over stimulated. The doctors and her family have requested no visitors at this time. We know all of you love Erika, but please respect the family’s wishes so that she can recover as quickly as possible. Her family is focusing on taking care of Erika and Miles. Please use this site to keep up on her recovery and to communicate with Erika and her family.
Erika will be in the Neuro ICU for at least the next two weeks and they do not allow flowers or gifts. In lieu of gifts, if you’d like to help Erika with her increasing medical bills please donate on this page. Thank you in advance for any contributions.
