After a year of not being able to figure out what was wrong and why my dads health was declining, he eventually received an unexpected answer in April that flipped our lives upside down. Stage 4 lung cancer. That once discovered, has spread to his bones, liver, and other places.
My dad eventually became unable to work which has taken a HUGE mental toll on him because he is the hardest worker I know. He’s worked since the day I was born and has never missed more than a few days in over 30 years. Since the diagnosis, he’s had to have countless tests, surgeries, scans, treatments, medications and this has created such a stressful situation for us because the bills won’t stop coming in and debt collectors keep calling. There has been a bunch of medications we’ve had to turn down due to the cost being so expensive to pay out of pocket. We’ve applied for medication assistance and were only able to get assistance for his blood thinner thankfully. Besides that; there’s things he needs that we just can’t pay for but it’s necessary.
I have seen him break down over the stress of finances and be on the verge of giving up because there is no way we can pay all of these medical bills. He is not the one to ask for help for ANYTHING. But this is the time- to keep him alive and healthy, that I need to ask for help for him. We have applied for every single state/government program available. I've spent countless hours on the phone, in meetings and trying to do all I can do to get help. Due to the states insane requirements, my dad is not able to receive any medical assist due to him receiving a social security check for disability since he can no longer work. This check is NOTHING to live on, never mind paying 10’s of thousands of dollars in medical bills.
We need help.
Where we are at since the diagnosis: My dad has been getting treatment every 3 weeks. We started with an intense treatment of immunotherapy/chemo and after multiple rounds it has stabilized his cancer. YAY!! Since then he’s been on maintenance doses of Katruda to keep him alive.
He has enough stress going on fighting with this disease. I want to take the stress of finances off his back as much as I possibly can. ANY help is truly appreciated and if you can’t donate, please share. It would mean everything to us. I will keep this posted as we progress.
All donations will go towards: unpaid medical bills, medications, daily living expenses, mental health services if needed, and medical supplies. He was told he wouldn’t live for another 6 months, and here he is!! Still here and fighting and he can go further with some help and especially emotional support.
