Mylen’s Road To Recovery

Donation protected
As many of you have already heard, my sweet nephew Mylen was airlifted to Hopkins this past weekend after a short trip to Deep Creek Lake ended tragically with a life-altering ATV accident. Mylen has spent the last 3 days in the pediatric intensive care unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital after a limb-saving surgery to his right arm. We have at least two more surgeries ahead of us, and a very long road to recovery.

A little back story- Mylen is your typical 13 year old boy. HUGE sports fanatic, die-hard Raven’s fan, always has a ball in his hands kind of kid. He pretty much lives outside on his basketball court that is actually a concrete slab that his Pop Pop intended on building a shed on. Years later, Mom Mom refuses to let Pop put his shed up because that is Mylen’s court. My Mom and Dad (his Mom Mom & Pop Pop), along with Mylen’s Dad- Elder, have spent the last 13yrs raising this boy into the amazing teenager he is today. He is the sweetest, most polite, kind-humored kid, who loves hanging out with his family more than anything.

We will spend the better part of the next month in the hospital, and back and forth to outpatient appointments and therapy. This will be followed up by intense PT/OT therapy for months after that.

As most of you know, my mom runs a business that she has put her heart and soul into for the last 27 years. She is very dedicated to the families that she serves, as well as the children who she loves as her own. Recognizing the important role that she plays in their lives, her and my father have decided to keep the daycare center open. My Dad has taken off from his job and others have stepped up to substitute in her absence so she doesn't have to leave Mylen (she hasn't left his side since the accident happened).

The proceeds from this fund will all go directly to my parents to cover medical bills, lost-income, and coverage for all the various costs such as parking, food, gas back and forth to the hospital, and the care required to beat the odds and get this boy throwing a football and dribbling a basketball with his dominant arm again. Anything left after that will be donated back to the Children’s Center at Hopkins.

We appreciate all of the love, prayers and support you all have given our family so far. Even if you are unable to donate, please keep that sweet boy in your prayers. We are a family of faith and know that anything is possible with God.

Cards and any words of encouragement to keep this kid optimistic are also appreciated! Right now we are asking visitors to wait until we get him home, as he is in a very delicate state.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Mylen’s story. We will give updates as we get them!
