TRACE COLE THORNTON
AUG 12, 1988 – NOV 1, 2010

So it’s that sad time of year, again, when I lost my only child, Trace, in a terrible car accident (along with his girlfriend Rachel and dog Marley).  For the past several years, I have been buying ads to go in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Souvenir Program to honor my son and for others to honor and remember him too. I often say, I don’t know why my son is in Heaven, and I am here. What is my purpose? Well, I think I have realized it. To put these ads in the program every year, help Trace to be remembered, AND to raise money for the HSLR Scholarship Fund.
Trace was in the Klein Collins High School FFA for 3 years. His first year,  a freshman, he raised a pig. He had to pick one out of a group (a litter?)  And unfortunately we ended up with the crazy one that would run up and down the pen and squeal. We named her Bacon. LOL I really enjoyed doing this together with Trace. I would take him every morning and evening to feed her. I was raised in the city, as was Trace, so this was a good opportunity to see the country side of things, like his dad was raised.
One weekend, Trace went hunting with his dad. So I had pig duty. Woke up Saturday, a cold front came in. I went to the high school barn to feed Bacon and she was laying down shivering. I thought, oh my, our pig is going to die! I called Mr. Reaves, the FFA sponsor, he told everything would be fine, just go get some hay for the pig to nest in. But, I was so worried the pig was so cold, before I left to go get some hay, I found a blanket in my car. So I got the blanket and wrapped it around Bacon. When I came back, Bacon was still in the blanket. By then, some of the other students had come out to check on their pigs and saw Trace’s. After that, Trace was know as the one who's mom had literally ‘put a pig in a blanket’. 
So, I would really appreciate it if you would remember and honor Trace by signing his page, and/or making a donation which will go to the HLSR Scholarship Program. Donations would be great, but most importantly, please sign page.. br />
With love, Nina
