Everyone is still dealing with the aftermath of hurricane Michael, and the tornadoes that blew our stage away in January of 2017. Farmers are still waiting on disaster payments, and blue tarps are still donning rooftops as far as the eye can see here in Southwest Georgia. I've even seen an Applebee's billboard used for roofing here recently. It's been a whole year since the hurricane, and these are still issues in our community. What can we do as music fans to make a difference? What we can do is raise awareness of these issues, and hopefully have enough money leftover at the end to donate back to the cause. We started Briar Patch to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals. Let me tell you here first. At the first Briar Patch, we raised around $500 in cash donations that went to the hospitals, but the festival lost around $3000! That's not counting man hours spent maintaining the grounds, trips to the hardware store, or any advertising! This didn't bother us. Our little posse saved money all year long just so we could have the best show possible in Damascus, Ga!!! It was well worth it. We saved money for the next 7 or 8 events as well. The only year that I thought we may have profited was the year that Chris Knight headlined. Upon further review, I forgot that I had to borrow money for his deposit to book him! (Stupid 25yr old Jeb)   So this is what we are going to do. We want to keep Briar Patch going. I get asked about the next Briar Patch everywhere I go. I always say, "Soon." What else can I say? None of us have given up on this. We absolutely love it, just like all of you do. These donations will be going to pay the bands and the production crews. The vendor fees, drawings, silent auctions, donations etc...will all go to Cloud Kirbo's treatment and the Colquitt/Miller County Art's Council project to rebuild homes. Let's make it happen!!!!
