Jarith's Cervical Disc Replacement Surgery

Donation protected

My husband has been dealing with severe nerve pain in his left arm for a year now. After moving to Stanwood last March. Jarith helped with a service project doing yard work and cutting wood. He came home from the service project and went to bed. Then when he woke up in the morning he was horribly stiff and had a strange pain in his left shoulder. Jarith shrugged it off and though it would get better. But then days turned into weeks and weeks turned to months. Every day his pain got worse and worse. Soon he started experiencing loss of strength in his arm and sever pain with every movement or action. We made an appointment with his doctor to check it out. His symptoms were congruent with a herniated disc, so we got a referral to a spine specialist on Everret. After weeks if waiting, we finally got to see the spine specialist, who recommended an MRI. When the MRI results came back we had another appointment and the doctor concluded that jarith had a "Healthy Spine", and told us to call if it got worse. But it was already impossible to do anything without horrific pain. So we were them referred to a physical therapist. We went to those appointments and the physical therapist concluded that he must have a herniated disc and Jarith was in too much pain for therapy to help. The therapist recommended a steroid injection to help with the pain. So then we arranged for an injection. And waited several more weeks. Finally something that might help! But then Jarith recieved the injection, and his symptoms only worsened. He felt completely defeated and still in so much pain. Then a few months later, we decided to get a second opinion. We were able to get in touch with a neurosurgeon in Bellingham after 6 weeks of trying for a refferal. We got into our appointment and sat down with Dr. Ha. He really listened to jarith and his symptoms, and acknowledged that he was in pain. He ordered imaging and with 1 week he had a confirmed diagnosis of a herniated disc at c6,c7! We then realized that the previous injection didnt help because it was put at the wrong location in his neck. We we needed to try another injection. We waited another 6 weeks and Jarith received the injection in the right place. Sadly, it still didn't help his pain at all. So we schedule ANOTHER appointment. Dr. Ha suggested a cervical disc replacement. It would be the only way to help with his pain. So after a year of pain and misery, Jarith is receiving surgery this week! He is so excited to finally be out of pain! But we are also feeling the burden of the cost. We need to cover 5,000 Dollars of the cost. With 3 children and countless other medical expenses from earlier this year, we are not sure how we will pay for the expense. So we are reaching out and asking for help to cover this cost...If you can help in any way we would be so appreciative! It is hard for us to ask for help, but we want to be able to provide sufficiently for our family without going into massive credit card debt. From our family to yours , thank you! Amber Fry
