Hello,
I am Haleigh Pierce. As most of you may have heard my best friend Windy Gutholm and her family have had a rough journey. Windy was born with a AVM in her brain. AVM stands for Arteriovenous Malformation, this is basically when there is a tangle of abnormal (poorly functioned) blood vessels.
Windy has gone through many surgeries up until the age of 21 (she is now 30). In November 2015 Windy had her first major brain hemmorage, she was hospitalized for a little over 2 weeks, she underwent alot during this visit alone. She had sever headaches, couldnt remember anything, would not eat, and just wanted to sleep. She had to shave off her beautiful long hair and put a drain in her head. It was very rough to say the least!
Then again on August 26, 2016, Windy had said she was having headaches again, was sleeping alot again, and wasn't eating much... her family took her right in to get her checked out and sure enough their was another brain hemmorage. Just when she thought she would be coming home in a day or two, things took a turn for the worse. Windy took a nap and didn't wake up. Windy was back in ICU again for quite sometime and had to have a shunt put in.
For 3 years, Windy was doing so good up until last Thursday night (October 10, 2019). Windy had passed out, they rushed her to Pomona Valley Hospital and sure enough... a brain hemmorage. She was transferred on Friday morning back to Keck USC ICU and taken back for immediate surgery after a 2nd hemmorage had occurred. Windy had to have some bone removed from her skull to allow the brains swelling to expand and relieve pressure. After surgery, the pressure rises and the doctors believed there was a 3rd hemmorage. Windy was already in a self-induced coma from the bleeding and the doctors determined the best course of action was to put her into a deeper induced coma and hope the bleeding would stop and the pressure would go down. (The doctors determined that the surgery that would need to happen would be to dangerous). After a little while on the medication the pressure got better, but her sodium levels sky rocketed. She is being monitored, and we are praying for a miracle.
If Windy does pull out of this, there is a long road ahead.
Many of you may not know but Windy is a stay at home mother to Braylee Jean (6 years old), an amazing wife to her husband Kevin Gutholm, an amazing sister and daughter to her family, and She is also an amazing auntie to so many nieces and nephews. Windy is 1 of 7 children. Her family has become our family. Due to the current situation, Kevin has of course been at the hospital by his wifes side and unable to work. As we all know this can be tough with financial issues, as they do not just go away. The amount of debt from the hospital stays, surgeries, etc. is outrageous. This situation is also slowly starting the backup with personal bills as the hospital stay in ICU continues. I am starting this GoFundMe to help raise money for the medical bills, personal bills, and any other needs that may arise in the near future. I have set the goal for $5,000 however the amount of debt for these medical bills is above and beyond that, any amount of donation will help.
Windy is such a strong young woman and has an amazing soul. She can brighten up a room with her smile. She is truly beautiful on the inside and out. I have been freinds with Kevin for many years and when he met Windy, I knew I had a best friend for life! Our families have combined and I couldnt imagine life without her. Windy is the type of person who is always there for you no matter what, she puts others before herself always. For someone to go through this at any time in their life is hard but for Windy being so young and having a beautiful life and family, it is heartbreaking. Myself, along with my family and Windy's family are forever greatful for anything you can donate to help. We are trying to keep faith and hope in this rough time. Thank you again for anything. We love Windy with all our hearts!
